Ditched Her Corporate Job To Start A Social Enterprise and Online Florist Company

She grew up in a low-income single-parent family.

She has two partially disabled siblings, a brother, and a sister.

Knowing how her mother struggles financially, raised 3 kids single-handedly with a low-paying hawker job, never fail to show care and concern for the underprivileged, and how she has forgiven the kids’ father made Hazel Kweh, the co-founder and CEO of BloomBack from Singapore realized what her mother has taught her: kindness and forgiveness.

Her mother’s selfless quality went on to become a significant value for Hazel, both in her personal life and career.

To ease her family’s financial problems, Hazel worked multiple jobs while still in school to support herself.

She worked as a stewardess with Singapore Airlines for a few years after graduation. Then, she went on to become a financial planner with prudential.

Not long later, Hazel brought her sister Faith to a friend’s wedding to cheer her up because she was going through a depression and she was struggling with finding a job while also experiencing a broken marriage.

At the wedding, Faith fell in love with decorative flowers and started repurposing the wedding flowers into bouquets. She then went door-to-door distributing the bouquets to seniors living alone in rental flats just to cheer them up.

This simple positive gesture made Faith happy again and decided to pursue floristry.

Hazel was fully inspired by her sister and that is when BloomBack was founded. Hazel left her corporate job and start focusing on being the co-founder of BloomBack in February 2017.

BloomBack, is not just a one-stop online floral and gifts marketplace, BloomBack is also committed to empowering marginalized women, helping them to regain confidence and achieve financial independence and dignity.

BloomBack uses flowers to spread Happiness, encourage Empathy, promote Acceptance, and nurture Love (HEAL).

Due to this absolutely unique business concept, BloomBack received financial support through a grant from the Singapore Centre for Social Enterprise.

To this day, through several non-profit organizations including Singapore’s YWCA, Parkway Cancer Centre (PCC), and Daughters of Tomorrow, BloomBack seeks ways to give back to society.

They have also worked with the Breast Cancer Foundation as their floral organiser for their 20th anniversary.
