1.Start by researching the company and your interviewers.
This is the first step in preparing for an interview. You need to understand key information about the company you are interviewing with because it can really help you go into your interview with confidence.
Visit the company’s website, social media accounts and recent press releases will provide a solid understanding of the company’s goals and how your background makes you a great fit.
2. Practice your answers to common interview questions.
Start googling common interview questions and prepare your answer to the common questions like: “Tell me about yourself, and why are you interested in this role with our company?”
Why? Because when you already have the answers in mind, when asked in the interview, you will be able to answer them smoothly.
3.Reread the job description.
When applying for a job, do you actually read the job description or just simply send in your resume?
Well, either reason, you may want to print out and begin underlining specific skills the employer is looking for.
You will also need to think about examples from your past and current work that align with these requirements.
4. Use the STAR method in answering questions.
Take note. Most employers love to ask about times in the past when you used a specific skill.
Hence, be prepared to answer them using the STAR method where you can tell previous experiences or stories with a clear Situation, Task, Action, and Result.
5. Dress professionally and be on time.
On interview day, your appearance matters too.
Make sure to dress appropriately, show up early, you will come across as professional and well put-together.
It probably won’t be the basis of the interviewer’s final decision but it can certainly play a part in how you’re first perceived.
To be clear, these tips alone may not win you the job you wanted badly but they can certainly get you very much closer.
